Note: There are multiple scientific advertisements on the link above but I will be discussing the one that has astronaut in it.
1) The issue that the ad is trying to exploit in order to promote its service/product is height. The advertisement claims that “You get taller in space” (Science World).
2) The purpose of the ad is to persuade people to travel to space in order to grow.
3) The argument here could be if height really does increase in space or not.
4) The author of the page is Tom.
5) The intended audience are short people who are interested in going to space.
6) The tone of the advertisement is informative.
7) The advertisement shows an astronaut in space and the way he has his neck placed looks like it is growing.
8) The supporting appeal used in the advertisement is the name of the scientific world and in small letters, it says “we can explain”.
This advertisement is persuasive and the statement “You get taller in space” is scientifically accurate. The claim is accurate and therefore might actually grab the attention of the intended audience. At first glance, people might think that it is effective as it is targetting everyone short on a global scale. However, the advertisement is not very effective as the intended audience is very narrowed down if one ponders upon it. The advertisement is for those who are short and interested in traveling to space which also means it is targetting either the very smart people who are astronuts or rich who have millions of dollars that can be spent on traveling to space. Concludingly, the advertisement would have been more persuasive if it had mentioned some kind of a special offer (like 10% off) for individuals to visit space.
